Following the completion of the 50 metre, 659 GRT Donald Starkey designed Amels to an existing SYM client in early 2013, the tendering process for a significant refit began. After months of consultations with leading designers and a review of proposals from re-fit yards around the world, the decision was taken to return the yacht to Holland and back into the careful hands of the Amels team.
Immediately upon arrival at Vlissingen in September 2013, Captain Nathan McFadyen and his crew together with the Amels shipyard set to work. This was one of the most technical projects undertaken by SYM to date, who acted in the capacity of owners representative throughout the project.
During the course of these last five months the yacht has undergone the following works:
Dry-docking for ten year class & flag state surveys
Complete repaint of hull and superstructure
Extensive AV, navigation & communications upgrades
Complete interior re-fit
Mechanical upgrades of major engineering systems
Servicing and planned maintenance of machinery and hotel systems
We are delighted to report that the project is entering the final stages and is due for completion in the next few weeks.
More news on this rebirth to follow.
